WorldatWork Honors KPMG for Successful Employee Engagement Program

KPMG to receive the 2016 Innovative Excellence in Workforce Engagement Award

Oct. 8, 2015 ' WASHINGTON, D.C. — WorldatWork is proud to announce that KPMG LLP, is the recipient of this year's WorldatWork Innovative Excellence in Workforce Engagement Award. The Innovative Excellence in Workforce Engagement Award is the highest honor bestowed by the human resources association and recognizes ground-breaking workplace programs and policies that raise the bar on the employee experience.

KPMG, the audit, tax and advisory firm and U.S. member firm of KPMG International Cooperative, is recognized for its Higher Purpose campaign, a firm-wide initiative created to reach the hearts and minds of its workforce. Instead of focusing on the firm's purpose, the accounting firm focused on the purpose of each employee. The signature theme for the initiative, Inspire Confidence Empower Change celebrates KPMG's higher purpose as it relates to employees, clients, and communities. KPMG began a comprehensive, top down integration where "purpose" became the core theme of all communications. The firm's senior leaders kicked off the program with a video asking employees to share how their work makes a difference and frame it on a poster provided by HR. The response was overwhelming and the company received more than 40,000 employee responses.

Program work-life benefits include:

  • Beyond participation metrics, KPMG's employee engagement survey scores have soared to record levels.
  • 85% of employees now consider the firm a great place to work.
  • 86% of employees say they are proud to work here and turnover has plummeted.

"KPMG's Higher Purpose campaign is an excellent example of how a company can connect with employees on a personal level," said Anne Ruddy president and chief executive officer at WorldatWork. "We congratulate KPMG on an innovative program that encourages employees to bring their authentic self to work and share why their work is meaningful to the company and its clients."

"KPMG is honored to receive this award because it recognizes our purpose-driven culture," says Bruce Pfau, the firm's vice chairman of Human Resources and Communications. "Our vision is to be the clear choice for our people, clients, and communities, and that means not only attracting and retaining talented professionals but also inspiring them to do their best. Focusing on purpose strengthens pride and engagement by encouraging our people to think about the positive impact of the work they do."
