Local Network Spotlight
Compensation & Benefits Professionals of Indiana
Each year, the 12-member board of directors for Compensation & Benefits Professionals of Indiana retreats into the woods to plan the upcoming year and set goals—without distractions.
CBPI board president Denise Harvey said the board does hold monthly meetings, but with so much on the agenda, it is difficult to strategize. “A whole day gives us time to focus, and it also helps in the bonding,” said Harvey, who welcomed four new board members in 2008. “You learn more about the people you’re going to be serving with the next year.”
In planning for the upcoming year, one tool CBPI used is a membership survey to analyze what is of most interest to members, including networking, education and communication. Always keeping members in mind, the board listened to committee reports and had the opportunity to chime in with suggestions and feedback. The board then broke into smaller groups to brainstorm new ideas and reported back to everyone to come up with formal goals for the new year.
“We want to increase membership by 10 percent, broaden our communication with our membership by doing a president’s newsletter every quarter and keep our Web site updated with events and bios of board members so people will recognize us at the meetings and know who to reach out to,” Harvey said. To provide value, CBPI hopes to pursue student membership with mentoring opportunities, continue to provide quality educational programs, and extend educational programs to more nonmembers.
