WorldatWork’s Alliance for Work-Life Progress Announces 2013 Work-Life Rising Stars
Jan. 24, 2013 — Scottsdale, Ariz. — WorldatWork’s Alliance for Work-Life Progress (AWLP) is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s AWLP Work-Life Rising Star Award. Now in its seventh year, the Work-Life Rising Star Award recognizes stellar individuals who exhibit a combination of professional and personal attributes that demonstrate emerging leadership and growing contributions to the work-life community. Two Work-Life Rising Stars will be honored at the Work-Life Awards Gala at the AWLP Work-Life Forum in Baltimore, Md., on Feb. 28, 2013.
“These two exceptional individuals represent the next generation of work-life leaders: innovative professionals who continue to find new ways to ensure that every workplace becomes a great place to work,” said Kathie Lingle, WLCP, executive director of AWLP. “They have been chosen from a competitive field because they are already contributing in demonstrable ways to the field and have indicated their dedication to work in collaboration with us to advance work-life progress.”
The 2013 Work-Life Rising Stars are:
Mika J. Cross — Work/Life and Wellness Program Director, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
Cross is a seasoned human capital policy strategist specializing in work-life, wellness and employee engagement. She has been instrumental in shaping work-life initiatives in support of Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack’s commitment to cultural transformation. In January 2012, Cross conceived and launched a comprehensive, highly successful USDA-wide marketing campaign, "Turbo-Charge Telework.” USDA has received numerous awards for its telework campaign results, including the 2013 Innovative Excellence award from WorldatWork’s Alliance for Work-Life Progress, the AWLP Work-Life Seal of Distinction, the Excellence in Telework Leadership and Telework Driver Award. Cross currently serves as a member of the Office of Personnel Management's Telework Advisory Board and is a member of the national Telework Visionary Committee of the Telework Exchange. Cross’ passion is widely recognized in the work-life community. She is consistently sought out by people who are interested in learning more about the field, and she shares her knowledge and expertise selflessly.
Danielle Hartmann — Director of Corporate Partnerships at the Boston College Center for Work & Family (CWF)
Hartmann is responsible for managing corporate relations and programming for CWF’s National Workforce and Global Workforce Roundtables. Leveraging her international experiences and cross-cultural skills, Hartmann works consultatively with leading multinational organizations from a variety of industries, seeking to develop global work-life and workforce programs and implement them in a locally sensitive manner. She has contributed to the development of CWF’s Global Work/Life Toolkit, and collaborated with member companies on integrating work-life within the organizational culture, launching workplace flexibility initiatives, and developing manager training curricula. In addition, Hartmann benchmarked flexible work arrangement best practices in the Asia-Pacific region, created the international Executive Briefing Series on Work-Life in Brazil, Russia, India, China, Sweden, Japan, and Germany, and co-authored an article on the multigenerational workforce. She is admired for her exemplary ability to reach across borders and cultures and form strong bonds with academics and business leaders from around the world.
As Work-Life Rising Stars, Cross and Hartmann join a growing cadre of peers who are evolving into the next generation of work-life leadership. The AWLP honor will provide opportunities to enhance their careers in work-life through exposure to leaders in total rewards strategy as well as a variety of activities for professional development. They will also be involved in the selection and mentoring of subsequent years’ Rising Stars.
