Congressional Roundtable on ADA in U.S. Senate Today (July 15, 2008)

Congressional Roundtable on ADA in U.S. Senate Today

July 15, 2008 — Today the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a roundtable on the new Americans with Disabilities Act, S. 1881.

The committee is calling the roundtable “Determining the Proper Scope of Coverage for the Americans with Disabilities Act,” which seems to signal that the purpose of the discussion may be broader than just S. 1881. The roundtable starts at 10 a.m. Eastern and you can watch it on the committee’s Web site.

Witnesses will be:

  • Chai Feldblum, Professor, Federal Legislation Clinic, Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C.
  • Carey McClure, Citizen, Griffin, Ga.
  • Samuel R. Bagenstos, Professor of Law, Washington University School of Law, St. Louis
  • Jo Anne Simon, Esq., The Law Office of Jo Anne Simon, Brooklyn
  • Michael Eastman, Employment Policy Director, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Washington, D.C.
  • Sue Gamm, Primary Consultant, Public Consulting Group, Chicago
  • Terry W. Hartle, Senior Vice President, American Council on Education, Washington, D.C.
  • Andrew Grossman, Senior Legal Policy Analyst, Heritage Foundation, Washington, D.C.

This Senate activity follows house passage of a bill amending the ADA to expand coverage. Look for a report on how the roundtable goes in WorldatWork’s Newsline.
