Balancing Work and Family Studies and Resources

June 3, 2008 — Last week I participated in a wonderful conference focusing on workplace flexibility research. Besides thought-provoking conversation and dialogue, I also got to visit the campus of my alma mater, Georgetown University Law Center, which is now quite different from when I attended. Nostalgia aside, I was happy to get my hands on some new data and resources. And, as usual, I want to share them with you.

• Statutory Routes to Workplace Flexibility in Cross-National Perspective Report by Ariane Hegewisch and Janet Gornick (May 2008)
• From Work to Retirement: Tracking Changes in Women's Poverty Status Report by Dr. Sunhwa Lee and Dr. Lois Shaw, published by AARP's Public Policy Institute, (February 2008)
• Are We Losing the Best and the Brightest? Highly Achieved Women Leaving the Traditional Workforce Final Report (March 2008) prepared for the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration. Prepared by Choose 2 Lead Women’s Foundation, Oakton, Va.  Authors: Shirley M. Clark and Patricia S. Reed
• The Sloan Work and Family Research Network has many resources on its Web site, including a Work and Family literature database, a Work and Family encyclopedia and a page dedicated to statistics and fact sheets on various work and family topics
• And finally from Alliance for Work-Life Progress at WorldatWork, Workplace Flexibility: Innovation in Action, which compiles resources and best practices.
