Fall Interns, Policy and Public Affairs

WorldatWork is seeking 2 paid Fall 2012 interns for its Policy & Public Affairs team based in Washington, D.C.

WorldatWork is a not-for-profit organization providing education, conferences and research focused on global human resources issues including compensation, benefits, work-life and integrated total rewards to attract, motivate and retain a talented workforce.  Founded in 1955, WorldatWork has nearly 30,000 members in more than 100 countries.

Duties

  • Attends designated meetings, hearings, and briefings on Capitol Hill; drafts executive-level summaries for staff
  • Participates in the overall planning and execution of outreach campaigns to Congress and federal agencies
  • Performs timely research on pending legislative and regulatory developments
  • Assists with the preparation of briefing materials, advocacy documents and other member resources
  • Helps plan and coordinate a variety of internal and external events
  • Provides routine administrative support for the Policy & Public Affairs  team

Product Manager
Location: Scottsdale, AZ

WorldatWork, a premier education association located in the Scottsdale Airpark, has an opening for a Product Manager. The Product Manager works collaboratively across the organization to strategically plan and design products and product families through all stages of the product lifecycle, including conception, definition, development, launch and post launch activities for assigned products.  In addition, the Product Manager differentiates products from the competition and ensures that they meet the needs of targeted customers, resulting in the achievement of strategic revenue objectives.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements product strategy and roadmap to attain revenue targets and position assigned products for long term success.
  • Manages and participates in the full lifecycle of product development across multiple product lines including conception, definition, development, launch and post launch activities.
  • Applies overall product management/product marketing principals to understand target markets, solution gaps, pricing and positioning strategies, value propositions and unmet needs, identify and recommend product enhancement and development opportunities.
  • Drives commercial success for assigned product or product family through innovative product definition, competitive positioning, pricing and promotional activities and by working closely with other departments including Product Development, Marketing and Professional Development.
  • Collaborates with professional development to define product specifications and requirements.
  • In collaboration with Marketing develops implements and measures integrated marketing and product plans which are tied to strategic objectives.
  • Develops and executes product launch plans.
  • In collaboration with Business Development and Manager, Public Education makes recommendations, develops and implements channel strategies to attain revenue goals.
  • Drives enhancements to the WorldatWork web site to improve customer experience and support revenue goals.
  • Responsible for pulling and analyzing web site metrics to understand customer behaviors and patterns.
  • Tracks and verifies product forecasts, revenue and financial performance.
  • Performs market research and monitors competitive activity.
  • Stays abreast and trained on emerging product management/product marketing best practices, tools and technologies.
  • Works collaboratively within the organization to develop and attain buy-in on market requirements, business plans, financial analysis and/or business case.
  • Provides subject matter expert support during the selling process and provide input for marketing collateral (e.g. sales sheets, product presentations, FAQs, white papers, etc.)
  • Participates in generating content for use in collateral, tradeshow graphics signage, public relations, direct mail campaigns and web sites.
  • Maintains close relationships to customers to assess and maintain an awareness of customers’ needs and perspectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Candidate will possess strong written/verbal communication, judgment/decision-making, problem resolution/follow-through skills, critical thinking and a strong working knowledge of Product Management/Product Marketing Processes.  Five plus years of experience in product management/product marketing, business development, marketing, project management or market research. Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, or marketing is required.  Related formal product education/certification is a plus. A general proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.

Buyer
Location: Scottsdale, AZ
WorldatWork, a premier education association located in the Scottsdale Airpark, has an immediate opening for a Buyer. Under limited supervision, this position performs buying assignments of varying complexities for the entire organization. Successful candidate will use analytical skills to develop reports and monitor metrics and may use such information, as well as other applicable factors, to recommend actions necessary to improve quality and/or reduce cost.

This individual:

  • Works with internal customers and vendors/suppliers to prepare and solicit competitive bids, quotations, and proposals with pertinent specifications, terms and conditions.  Works with cross functional teams to gather requirements necessary to conduct negotiations to obtain maximum value.
  • Monitors inventory and generates orders for items including, but not limited to, general office/building supplies, educational supplies, facility supplies, event planning/course supplies and publications.
  • Resolves contract and purchase order differences, payment discrepancies, and quality issues with external suppliers and internal user departments. Works with vendors/suppliers to obtain samples for internal customer review/determination of suitability.
  • Maintains communications with a broad array of domestic and international vendors/suppliers, as well as maintains active internal working relationships with Distribution, Finance/Accounting and designated/project team members.
  • Performs RFQ/Research as assigned.

Position requires a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Business with one to three years of related field experience required.  A degree in Supply Chain Management Logistics or related field and 3 or more years of above described experience or equivalent combination of education/experience strongly preferred.  Individual must me proficient in Microsoft Office applications and a working knowledge of Oracle Purchasing desired.

Project Liaison/Executive Assistant

This position provides support to the offices of the CEO and CFO and through them, back up assistance to the association’s Boards, Board committees and Board leadership. Additionally, as assigned, serves as a project manager on specific organizational initiatives. Specific responsibilities include research, business analysis, correspondence creation and coordination of project activities across departments.

Requirements include an undergraduate degree within a business related discipline, a minimum of 5 years of experience with emphasis in dealing with all levels of staff up to and including members of Boards of Directors, as well as expert level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and proficiency with Microsoft Power Point, Project and Visio. Manager, Strategic Marketing Services

Systems Engineer
Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Under the supervision of the Manager, Technical Services, this position provides the highest level of technical expertise in the installation, configuration and maintenance of the hardware, software, operating systems, storage and networking of servers and workstations to maintain the security, integrity and reliability of WorldatWork’s information technology systems.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Performs installations and upgrades to software, hardware and operating systems.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements enhancements that will improve the security, reliability and performance of the systems.
  • Evaluates and provides recommendations to IT management regarding hardware, software, storage and networking planning and budgeting.
  • Designs architecture of new systems and technologies.
  • Monitors and tunes the systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Resolves escalated and highly complex trouble tickets assigned by the Help Desk in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Develops and maintains support documentation of all systems.
  • Maintains and increases professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops and seminars and participating in professional development activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Must have sufficient educational background and/or experience to qualify incumbent to work at the highest technical level on all phases of system engineering. A Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of seven to ten years experience working with Linux and Windows systems and TCP/IP environments required.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of operating systems, including understanding of patch and update management, devices and device drivers, file system concepts, storage and volume management, performance analysis, and system security.
  • Extensive understanding of networked computing environment concepts, principles of LANs and WANs, switching, and the monitoring, troubleshooting and tuning of networked systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with shell programming and/or scripting.
  • Highest level of knowledge and experience with the architecture of new technologies to design or redesign systems.
  • A high level of knowledge and proven skill supporting database, application server, web server, email server and file server environments required. Additionally, a significant knowledge and proficient skill with hardware required for connectivity and installation operations as described above.
  • Experience with the following technology is required:  Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Active Directory, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Networking (TCP/IP, Cisco Catalyst switches, SonicWall Firewalls, VPN, Network Load Balancers (F5 BigIP)), VMWare, SAN, and Backup and Recovery.
